Off the charts
Lil' Genghis had her six-month doctor's checkup today. mom reports that all is fine -- the doctor is happy, and we're getting ready to introduce more and more variety of foods.
Ah, food. The stuff that keeps her growing. And growing. And growing some more.
The doctors have these growth charts, showing you where the typical baby is at a certain point. That's the 50th percentile, or middle line. The extremes range from 5 percent to 95 percent, the outside lines. Here we see Genghis' weight, down from the 90th percentile:
She's around the 85 percentile for weight, or weighs more than 85 percent of the 6-month-old American girls. In other words, she's a big girl. But is she fat? Nope. Because she's also a tiny bit on the tall side:
Yep. That top line is the 95th percentile, remember. She seems to be several times the distance between the 90th and 95th percentiles ... as she does from the 95th percentile. She's off the chart for height, literally, to the point she'd seemingly be maybe around the 110th percentile.
28 1/4 inches, 18 pounds even. Six months. Big, healthy, happy girl.
According to the size chart, our dear Lil' Genghis at 6 months has the weight of an 8-month-old and the length of a 10 1/2-month-old girl. ... which explains why the clothes don't fit quite right for her age. =) Big, healthy, happy girl. =)

Considering I was in the downside of that graph - I had growing problems, as you might as well deduce from my actual height, after several years of treatment - I can't help but be worried about a baby having half of the Bastos Vieira genes... lol... I'm genuinely scared now!!!!

Meme,
Well, it's true us Bastos Vieiras are big, but the Stucka side of Isabella also plays a major part in her being so big.
Actually, I wonder... I think by the time she's three she will be towering over you... LOL
Just kidding! Love ya!

Well, I was always on the higher side of the graph ...... and look how I turned out.
Then again.

Just wait until you get the looks and comments like, "What is she still doing in a stroller. Isn't she old enough to walk on her own?"
Some people don't get that size is not always indicative of age and will be less tolerable of age appropriate behavior in a child that only looks to be older.
But at least you always have the comeback, "My toddler can dunk on your toddler."

Boboliiiiiiiiiiiii! =)
I took another look at the chart. If she remains roughly that much above the 95th percentile ... at 12 months she'll be as tall as the typical 18-month-old.
If she has any athletic talent, we might just be looking at a basketball scholarship recipient. -THAT- would mean we wouldn't need to start a meth lab for her benefit; just for our personal use.

Mike and Suze,
I take Savannah to the doctor in a few weeks for her 4-month check-up (even though she'll soon be 5 months old - we've been on vacation).
I know she's going to weigh at least 15 lbs... she's already wearing 6 to 9 month clothes!
Sharon:)
