Genghis reconsidered

dad found at least one mom who was considering the name Genghis. Whoop!
Genghis sounds nice, but I guess there's a lot to live up to there, what with all the raping and pillaging. Probably best that we avoided that one.
The emphasis should be more on the many good things that the great Khan did, but, dad agrees, there's a lot to live up to. Don't most children perform better when there's high expectations?

Add: More support for the name Genghis in modern context here, here, here, here. Opposition to Benjamin here.

Oddly, Genghis has never broken the top 1,000 names in the United States, if the Baby Name Voyager is to be trusted.

  • I vote for Genghis. If it's true that there are others like me who tend to only remember the bad things Kahn did, then it might not be a bad idea to start pinning the name more frequently on babies, who might just grow up to do great things, thus giving the world a more positive perception of the name Genghis.

The problem is the middle name. What sounds good with Genghis? Genghis David sounds too tame. Genghis Francis is too ill-fitting. Genghis Armando sounds a little better. Genghis Karlababble sounds downright wonderful.

Congratulations on parenthood! You'll have lots of fun, whatever the name ends up being.
